Rabbits





Rabbits are small mammals in the family Leporidae. The European rabbit, is familiar throughout the world as a wild prey animal and domesticated as house pets. In many parts of the world, the rabbit has become a part of daily life, as food, clothing, companion, and as an inspiration or artistic intention.


Taxonomy

Difference from Hares:
Hares are generally born with hair, more mature, and with good eyesight, while rabbits are born hairless and blind, and often need more care. Hares are often solitary, which means they pretty much  live alone above ground, whereas the rabbit usually live in colonies/social groups in burrows. Physically, Hares are considerably larger than rabbits starting from the ear to their hind legs that are much stronger and larger. Hares also have not been domesticated, whereas rabbits have often been adopted into being commonly bred as livestock or pets.
Domestication:
In the middle ages, rabbits were commonly kept as livestock, starting in ancient Rome. As livestock, rabbits were mainly kept for their meat and fur. The earlier breeds were much larger than those of the domesticated
